About THE Carolina Choir School
The Carolina Choir School is a tuition-free nonprofit choral program in Cary, North Carolina, sponsored by Christ the King Lutheran Church, and open to children and adolescents ages 6 and older. We welcome singers of all backgrounds and faiths, and no religious affiliation is required to participate.
We believe every participant has the potential to learn and enjoy music, and we strive to create a positive and creative environment where choristers can develop their vocal skills and gain confidence and self-expression through music.
Through our structured choral curriculum, designed specifically for young singers, participants develop their vocal skills, musical understanding, and knowledge of sacred and secular choral repertoire.

No Experience Needed
The Choir School is a tuition-free, extracurricular opportunity for children and adolescents with an interest in music and singing. No prior musical experience or vocal training is required.
In-Depth Musical Education
Chorister Training Includes:
- Music theory
- Ear training
- Vocal technique
- Music reading and notation
Selected choristers are eligible for free piano lessons. In addition, two scholarships are awarded each term to support musical advancement.

All participants begin as Apprentice Choristers and have the opportunity to advance through higher levels as they demonstrate growth in musical skills, attendance, behavior, and music theory, ultimately achieving the rank of Head Chorister.

Performance Opportunities
Choristers perform regularly at Christ the King Lutheran Church and have opportunities to share their musical talents at a variety of venues, community events, and music festivals throughout the Raleigh-Durham area. Depending on the choir's proficiency and readiness, additional opportunities may include regional, national, and international tours.
ABOUT OUR FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
Christian Schoen
Mr. Schoen has been a choral director, vocal coach, and church musician for over 30 years, with experience in a variety of vocal styles, including contemporary, traditional, and sacred music. He is the founder of the Carolina Choir School and is deeply committed to the advancement of music education for children and young adults. His experience as a conductor, vocal coach, and educator has given him a particular appreciation for helping young singers develop their musical abilities, confidence, and love of choral singing.
As a choral conductor, Christian has directed touring choirs throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, with performances at many renowned cathedrals, including Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Brecon Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral, Bath Abbey, Chester Cathedral, Christ Church Oxford, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Hereford Cathedral. He has also led the Dallas Frohsinn Singing Society, the oldest organized music ensemble in Dallas, Texas, and has performed with the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra twice at the Meyerson Symphony Center.
His musical training also includes extensive study of the piano and organ, beginning in 1993. He has studied with distinguished organists including Mary Preston, Concert Organist and Curator of the Meyerson Symphony Center Organ; Michael Murray, Telarc Recording Artist and protégé of Marcel Dupré; and Jens Korndoerfer, Concert Organist and protégé of Olivier Latry, Titular Organist at Notre-Dame, Paris. He has performed piano and organ recitals throughout the United States and the United Kingdom.
